Notes

• The cover is a great live photo of Ed circa 1978 playing his yellow and black striped Kramer, with the original "VH" logo embossed over it, but not obscuring it. The top of the cover says "VAN HALEN SUMMERTIME BLUES". It's printed on decent glossy photo paper.
• The back cover has Dave and Ed playing live, with Dave holding an acoustic guitar around his neck and Ed playing his red, black and white striped Kramer. The top right of the back cover states when and where the shows were recorded, but a mistake is made in reference to the Dallas show. It says that the last 5 tracks, denoted with an asterik, were performed in "Dallas, USA 1978". This is wrong, as you can hear Dave tell the audience "Paris, I love you all!" prior to the start of track #10.
• Also noted towards the bottom center of the back cover is "Limited No.", with a serial number next to it.
• The disc is a CD-R, with a plain white label.
• The Whiskey gig is extremely clear, and while on other discs this show has been described as having been "speeded up", that's not the case here. The mastering process from vinyl to CD has been nothing short of perfect. Van Halen are introduced as "Warner Brothers recording artists, Van Halen!".
• There is some fade-out in between a few tracks, and the band plays 4 unreleased songs. The two standouts of these unreleased songs are "Just What You Wanted" and "No More Waiting". Of special note, the intro to "No More Waiting" later surfaced as the intro to "Take Me Back (Deja Vu)" off their 1995 release, "Balance". Ed plays it with an electric guitar, rather than an acoustic one, for "No More Waiting".
• The "backwards horn noise" which starts off "Runnin' with the Devil", is an annoyance throughout the Whiskey portion. It goes off at any given moment.
• This being a New Year's Eve gig, Dave asks everyone how their year went and proceeds to tell the audience he judges the year on "how good the Thai sticks were, and they were pretty good this year!" He then shouts, "Let's hear it for Thailand! Let's hear it for Colombia! Let's hear it for Mexico! Let's hear it for Edward!", and the start "No More Waiting".
• Ed's "Eruption" is nothing short of phenominal here.
• The Paris gig is great. Sound quality is comparable to a soundboard recording, though it might have been recorded from the first few rows. One of the best sounding Van Halen with Dave gigs from this era.
• Dave tries to get the audience going by saying "We're Van Halen playing for you here!", and when he gets a lackluster response, he shouts "Let's try that one more time...WE'RE VAN HALEN!", and receives a somewhat better response.
• Overall, an outstanding disc, considering the eras and recording equipment used uring this period. Pick it up and add it to your VH collection, if not just for the 4 unreleased songs they play during the Whiskey set.
